T-USE
T-use was created by a team of Industrial Engineering and Management students from the University of Minho, with the aim of creating an ecological and sustainable covering brick.
One of the biggest problems today is the exponential growth of end-of-life textiles, which end up in landfills in less developed countries and have global environmental impacts. So T-use has set out to find a solution that can solve this environmental problem in the future, creating cladding bricks that can be used in construction of houses and buildings and, at the same time, can be used as adornment due to their aesthetic value from the various colors of the different textiles. The conventional dimensions of a clay brick are 45cmx20cmx22cm, however, the T-use bricks will have a dimension of 18cmx13cmx11cm as they are made from textiles. The brick's main functions will be heat and sound insulation.
The relevance and pertinence of the topic, combined with its application to the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector, earned the T-use team the Innovation Student award.
