On 17 October, Mercado do Bolhão won over the Urban Land Institute (ULI) jury, winning the ULI Global Awards for Excellence for its restoration, modernisation and sustainability work. The Urban Land Institute (ULI) is a global non-profit education and research institute that since 1979 has sought to recognise and reward practices that enhance sustainable land use. The ULI jury was made up of real estate and land use experts and the evaluation of the projects was based on overall excellence, including components such as market acceptance, design, planning, technology, amenities, economic impact, management, community involvement, innovation and sustainability.
It should be remembered that the requalification of the city's ex-libris has already been the protagonist of distinctions such as the National Urban Rehabilitation Award, with honours in the areas of best intervention for commercial use and services, best structural rehabilitation and best intervention in the city of Porto. It has also won the SIL Imobiliário (Best Urban Rehabilitation/Commerce, Services and Offices) and the Construir award for Best Rehabilitation Project and Best Commercial and Services Space.
